Preferring not to give Adam Wainwright an extra start this spring, the St. Louis Cardinals have settled on a minor-league sub to start the Grapefruit League opener on March 4 against the New York Mets. Evan MacLane, a lefty, will start that afternoon at Port St. Lucie, Fla., pitching coach Dave Duncan confirmed.
