Although linked by their testimony before Congress in 2005 and Mark McGwire's promise to take a role in steroid-prevention education, Don Hooton and McGwire had never spoken personally — until Monday. McGwire called Hooton, the founder of the Taylor Hooton Foundation, to admit the use of performance-enhancing drugs and apologize about 45 minutes before his statement went public.
