Asked if he felt his new hitting coach Mark McGwire might have second thoughts about accepting the job because of the barrage of questions he could face at each turn this coming season, St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said he, McGwire and others “thought seriously” about all of the ramifications before McGwire accepted the job.
