The Cincinnati Reds enter the Winter Meetings as one of the teams expected to be on the sidelines. General manager Walt Jocketty has discussed how the team may have to shed payroll, and on Monday he told reporters: “We like our club a lot the way it is.” To manager Dusty Baker, that means keeping the kind of players that are in demand — young, low-cost players — and trying to stay healthy enough to find out if those players can form a competitive core.
