The Cardinals can clinch tonight with a win and a Cubs loss, and John Smoltz tried to get them the win against Houston’s Bud Norris. Dave Clark is looking for his first win as the Astros manager as their losing streak reached nine games. Smoltz’s strikeouts are way up and his hits allowed way down his joining St. Louis from the Red Sox. Norris’s 51 K in 49 2/3 innings is a big positive for his rookie season, but his nine home runs allowed balance that, helping drive his ERA over 5.00.
