Ex-Cardinals Watch 9-17-09: Chad Paronto & So Taguchi Called Up; Jack Wilson Hurting; Chris Narveson Moving Into Rotation

Chad Paronto (Astros):
With Roy Oswalt out for the rest of the season, the Astros acquired some pitching help Wednesday when they purchased the contract of right-hander Chad Paronto from Triple-A Round Rock and placed right-hander Billy Sadler on the 60-day disabled list with right shoulder scapular dyskinesis.

Clayton Mortensen, Brett Tomko, Chris Gissell, & Shane Peterson (Athletics):
Mortensen, 24, earned his first career win in his third start on Friday against the Twins. His only major mistake came against the first batter, Denard Span, who homered. But Mortensen settled down after that, pitching six strong innings while allowing just the one run on five hits. He said after Friday's win that it was the first time he was able to effectively throw all of his pitches.

Chris Narveson (Brewers):
The Brewers are revisiting the idea of shutting down right-hander Yovani Gallardo for the season, and left-hander Manny Parra remains sidelined indefinitely with a stiff neck. Chris Narveson will make a second straight start in Parra's place on Friday, and recently promoted prospect Josh Butler appears a strong candidate to make at least one start if the Brewers make a move with Gallardo.
