Ex-Cardinals Watch 9-15-09: Brett Tomko Pitches Complete Game Shut Out & Earns 100th Win; Jeff Suppan Has Great Start; Edgar Renteria Gets To Rest

Brett Tomko (Athletics):
As the line of zeros grew longer, Brett Tomko's focus grew sharper.

Even after his teammates gave him three, then seven, then nine runs of padding, Tomko didn't change a thing.

Career victory No. 100 was there to be had, and he wanted to do it in style.

Jeff Suppan (Brewers):
Jeff Suppan surrendered only three Cubs hits, but one of them was a Derrek Lee homer, and Chicago played spectacular defense behind Ryan Dempster in the Brewers' 2-0 loss at Wrigley Field. It was a stirring opener to a four-game series between a pair of 2008 postseason participants who have fallen on hard times in '09.

Edgar Renteria (Giants):
When last seen performing against the Colorado Rockies, Edgar Renteria was hitting a grand slam. That occurred on Aug. 30, during the Giants' euphoric 9-5 victory that completed a three-game series sweep and thrust them into a tie for the National League Wild Card lead with Colorado.
