In the best pitching matchup of the night, Joel Pineiro battles Johan Santana at Citi Field. The Mets are chasing lots of team for a playoff spot and the Cardinals are one of those. The starters are separated by 0.13 runs in ERA, but in a tight race that puts Pineiro seventh and Santana 11th. Joel’s ERA is due to his fantastic control and low home run rate. Santana blows away batters, so it should be a good contrast in styles.
