Ex-Cardinals Watch 8-24-09: Miguel Cairo Called Up; Chris Narveson 1st MLB Win; Jack Wilson Open Letter To Buccs Fans; Chris Perez Scoreless Streak

Jack Wilson (Mariners):
In January 2001, my wife Julie and I boarded a plane from Los Angeles to Pittsburgh to attend our first PirateFest. We landed in the afternoon, and it was then that I knew our lives never would be the same: It was 5 degrees and snowing, and Julie and I were wearing shorts. Classic Californians on their first winter trip to the East Coast.

Chris Perez (Indians):
Upon returning to his hotel room in Chicago the night of July 7, Indians reliever Chris Perez began a one-on-none conversation.

Brett Tomko (Athletics):
The 36 year-old journeyman, who was released by the Yankees on July 29 and signed by the A's on Aug. 5, surrendered a leadoff home run to Curtis Granderson in the first but allowed just two hits and two walks thereafter while fanning eight.

Miguel Cairo (Phillies):
The Phillies announced before Sunday's game against the Mets that Dobbs is out because of a strained calf. The Phillies selected the contract of infielder Miguel Cairo to take his place. To make room for Cairo on the 40-man roster, the Phillies placed left-hander Antonio Bastardo on the 60-day disabled list.

Jason Marquis (Rockies):
Monday's series finale is a rubber match for Jason Marquis in his season series against the Giants. Marquis is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA in two starts.

Brett Wallace (Athletics):
Acquired from the Cardinals in the Matt Holliday trade, Wallace has been everything the A’s could have hoped for since he joined their organization. He projects as a guy who can hit for both power and average, though his power has be inconsistent. He isn’t yet on the A’s 40-man roster, but he has been pushed through the minor league ranks thus far in his short career. Combine this with his success at Double-A Sacramento (.250 IsoP and .371 wOBA in 132 PA) and it would not be a surprise to see the A’s take a closer look at their new top prospect this season. He is definitely someone to keep an eye on in all leagues.
