Boer-Managua's Alvaro Lopez was selected to represent the country in the upcoming World Cup opening play in September. Other names included are Jimmy Gonzalez, Ronald Garth, Armando Hernandez, and Diego Sandino. Nicarguan National Championship

Two More Signed By Major League Baseball Organizations
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed outfielder Rommel Mendoza and the Atlants Braves have picked up outfielder Ramon Flores.

Mendoza played in 76 games going 87-for-289 (.301) with 23 doubles, three triples, five home runs, 49 RBIs, 66 runs, 20 walks, 11 stolen bases, and 43 strikeouts. He was originally signed by the Kansas City Royals and played two seasons in the Dominican Summer League (2006-07) before being releases before last season. The right-handed hitter hit .214 (12-for-56) with one double, nine RBIs, eight runs, eight walks, one stolen base, and nine strikeouts in 19 games. Mendoza will begin his 2009 season in the Venezuelan Summer League.

Flores played in 27 games going 30-for-85 (.353) with five doubles, two triples, two home runs, 17 RBIs, 11 runs, nine walks, and 14 strikeouts. He has been watched by MLB scouts previously, but just now signed a contract, will begin his professional career in the Dominican Summer League.
Mendoza and Flores both played for Costa Caribe and were eliminated over the past weekend from the Nicaraguan National Championship. The team finished 26-22 to move into the second round of the tournament but came up short with an 11-17 record and seven games out of first. They become the fifth and sixth players signed out of the league this season; which follows Elmer Reyes (Atlanta Braves), Johnny Polanco (St. Louis Cardinals), Oscar Bravo (Seattle Mariners), and Denis Estrada (Chicago Cubs), who were all signed earlier on.

Other News & Notes
Former DSL Cardinal Walter Santos is having a setback in in recovery and will not return to particpate in the Nicaraguan National Championship with Boer-Managua.
Cheslor Cuthbert is currently training and preparing for the upcoming July 2 signing period.
Former DSL Cardinal Edwin Conde is particpating in a baseball tournament in Nicaragua, not much more info on this tournament at this time.
