Giants, Cardinals, & Pirates All Interested In Wagner Mateo

Team interested in Dominican player

The Giants have the sixth overall choice in the draft today, but their haul of picks is not as robust as last year. With no compensatory selections, they won't choose again until No. 55.

That should leave some cash in the signing budget to make a splash on the international front for the third time in four years, with 16-year-old Dominican outfielder Wagner Mateo atop their wish list.

The Giants have scouted Mateo intensely, and sources said the club plans to make an offer when the international signing period begins July 2. Pittsburgh and St. Louis also reportedly plan to make offers.
