Friday Tidbits: Wagner Mateo, Brendan Ryan, Kyle Lohse, Lineup

Wagner mateoIt's a hot and busy Friday at Busch Stadium, with plenty of news to pass on to you. The temperature reads 93 according to the signs in the bullpens, and it feels every bit of that.

St. Louis Cardinals infielder Khalil Greene, hitless in his last 13 at-bats after a brisk start when he exited the disabled list, will be rested at third base tonight against Minnesota lefthander Glen Perkins on a hot night at Busch Stadium. Lefthanded batters are hitting .375 against Perkins this season, so lefthanded-batting Joe Thurston, a .273 batter against southpaws, will get the nod at third base.

After throwing some 85 pitches this afternoon at Busch Stadium, about 60 of them to St. Louis Cardinals hitters Chris Duncan, Jason LaRue and Khalil Greene, righthander Kyle Lohse said he felt good enough that he thought he would be ready for a minor-league start next week on a rehabilitation program. If that went well, Lohse, who has been out since June 3 with a strained forearm flexor, might be able to pitch for the Cardinals in the last week before the All-Star break, which comes on July 13.
