NL Closes Gap In Interleague Play

Royals at Cardinals

Todd Wellemeyer shut down his former Royals teammates in the opener, and Kyle Lohse ended his personal three-game skid by blanking the Royals the next night on just four hits over eight strong innings. Those back-to-back, 5-0 shutouts at Busch Stadium were a lasting imprint on this Interleague weekend.

"You're not going to shut them out forever," Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said.

No, the Royals were indeed able to break through after those two gems. Kansas City got back to .500 and prepared for its big series starting Monday against Detroit by salvaging the finale, 3-2.
