Cardinals Win Instant-Replay Decision

The St. Louis Cardinals reaped the benefit of the new instant-replay review rule in the first inning tonight when Adam LaRoche of the Pittsburgh Pirates lined a ball over the right-field scoreboard and off the screen, or railing, in front of the seating area in right field. Initially, the ball was ruled a home run by first-base umpire Lance Barksdale but, after Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols and manager Tony La Russa objected, crew chief Randy Marsh had seen enough to order a review and left the field to go into the replay booth under the stands.
