Cecil Cooper (Astros):
Cecil Cooper was speculated to be on the hot seat this season, considering the Astros started slowly and he entered the final year of his contract without an extension. That speculation, however, was put to rest on Saturday when the club announced it had picked up the manager's contract option through 2010.

Jack Wilson (Pirates):
Shortstop Jack Wilson's injury on his left middle finger actually is a sprain and not a bruise, as had been initially announced. It caused him to get scratched from the lineup for the third time in four games, but he should return this afternoon, he and Russell said.
The sprain, as diagnosed yesterday by Dr. Mark Baratz, the Pirates' hand specialist at Allegheny General Hospital, inflamed ligaments on the inside of the finger and has made it difficult for Wilson to grip a bat. He applied extra tape to the handle yesterday to help, and took limited batting practice.
