Ex-Cardinals Watch 4-11-09: J.D. Drew Sits, Braden Looper Struggles With Control, Precautions With Anthony Reyes, Luke Gregerson Impresses

J.D. Drew (Red Sox):
Against lefty Joe Saunders, Terry Francona replaced J.D. Drew with Rocco Baldelli. Francona removed Drew and not Jacoby Ellsbury because he likes the way Ellsbury has been swinging and because he feels Ellsbury can provide a spark.

Miguel Cairo (Phillies):
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said at the time the possibility remained the team could sign another right-handed bat to improve its bench. But that possibility sounds slim for the foreseeable future, meaning when everybody is healthy, the Phillies' five-man bench consists of Greg Dobbs, Matt Stairs, Eric Bruntlett, Chris Coste and Miguel Cairo.
