I've been covering spring training since 2001, so I like to think I at least have some sort of idea of what I'm looking at. I'm not a coach, not a scout, but not a dummy either. Tonight, I had a chance to see Detroit Tigers 1st round pick Rick Porcello pitch for the first time. By the way, I wasn't alone. there were a few other St. Louis media members in attendance, along with some of the Cardinals brass. One person from the Cardinals asked, "Hey, have you heard of this guy?" obviously knowing the reason for my appearance at a Tigers, Marlins spring match-up at 7:05 on a day off. It was asked while watching Porcello warm up.
