The Pirates and shortstop Jack Wilson, their most tenured and popular player, have held preliminary talks regarding a contract extension.

General manager Neal Huntington confirmed on Sunday that Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson and his agent, Page Odle, have informed the team that Wilson would be amenable to working out some sort of contract extension in order to stay in Pittsburgh beyond the 2009 season.
