John Mozeliak Discusses Adam Kennedy Release With Bernie Miklasz On 1380 AM

  • Could not find a trading partner for Adam Kennedy.
  • Him and Tony LaRussa came to the decision together, LaRussa made very good points on letting him walk.
  • Thinks that he would not be able to handle the competition in camp very well.
  • There was enough depth and confidence in the farm system to go ahead with the release.
  • Doing what's best for the organization in eating Kennedy's contract.
  • Brendan Ryan, Brian Barden, Joe Thurston, Skip Schumaker, Jarrett Hoffpauir, and Tyler Greene competing for spot.
  • Looking for somebody who can handle the glove and hit at then plate.
  • Schumaker is excited about trying out at second, needs to make the adjustments defensively.
  • Ryan needs to prove himself offensively.
  • Barden's bat hasn't shown in the majors unlike Triple-A, but hasn't had that many chances.
  • Thurston very versatile, playing infield and outfield.
  • Hoffpauir range is limited and stepped back in 2008 at the plate.
  • Greene could be something special, great AFL showing.
  • No need to make a deal at this time, will decide as camp moves along.
