Chris Carpenter Impressive In Cardinals' Spring Debut

Righthander Chris Carpenter was everything the St. Louis Cardinals were hoping for and more in his spring training debut today against the Washington Nationals.
Cardinal Beat

Chris Carpenter breezed through two easy innings in his first start of Spring Training on Saturday, retiring six of the seven batters he faced on a total of 19 pitches. Carpenter did not allow a hit or a walk, with a hit batter being the only blemish on a fine showing.

Chris Carpneter made his first Grapefruit League appearance today, and on all fronts, it was successful. The most important thing today, was that he felt good. Physically he was happy, and he was also happy with his control and command. He threw 18 pitches over 2 innings, 13 for strikes. The only blemish was a hit batter. I stood behind the plate to watch the first 2 innings, and his breaking ball was really sharp. The contact wasn't hard, and the hitters were off balance.
