Cardinals Winter League Notebook 2-8-09

*Nicaraguan National Championship*

Boer-Managua pounded on Boaco 11-4.
Former DSL Cardinals Walter Santos and Edgard Montiel play for Boer.

Boer (3-2) takes on Boaco (0-5) Sunday February 8.

*Caribbean Series*

Jose Rada (GCL): Did not pitch for Aragua.
Ponce scored nine runs in the third and handed Aragua their first loss, 9-1: Boxscore

D'Angelo Jimenez (Memphis-free agent): Started as designated hitter and batted 9th. 0-for-3 with one strikeout.
Amaury Marti (Memphis): Did not play for Licey.
Licey doubled up Mazatlan 4-2: Boxscore

After games played, players returned to their rooms and found that someone had broken in and stole items: ESPN Deportes (This is disgusting to me personally!!!)

Timo Perez batted .158 (3-for-19) with three total bases, two walks, four strikeouts, .238 OBP, .158 SLG, and .396 OPS in five games for Licey.

Eli Marrero batted .200 (1-for-5) with one total bases, one run, one walk, one strikeout, .333 OPB, .200 SLG, and .533 OPS in two games for Ponce.
Robinson Cancel batted .182 (2-for-11) with one double, three total bases, one walk, two strikeouts, .250 OBP, .273 SLG, and .523 OPS in four games for Ponce.
Bill Pulsipher made one start for Ponce and posted a 0-0 record and 1.42 ERA. He allowed six hits, one earned run, one walk, and struck out seven over 6.1 innings.
Orber Moreno made two relief appearances for Aragua posting a 1-0 record and 0.00 ERA. He allowed four hits, no runs, and struck out four over four innings.
Jose Rada (GCL) did not pitch in the series for Aragua.

The members of the leagues are planning to meet to change the playing format of the Caribbean Series. Playing six games in six consecutive days is not attracting enough interest. ESPN Deportes

Both the Colombian League and Nicaraguan League are still making attempts to enter the Caribbean Series. Another possibility could be the Panamanian League, which like Nicaragua, took the 2008-09 season off. Link
