Tony La Russa in town for his ARF Fundraiser. (Notes below)
- Not disappointed in the effort to go after free agents, tries to understand the budget & economy.
- Understands the fans concerns with no 'major' moves being made.
- Disappointed he didn't get Brian Fuentes, still wants a closer to protect & help teach the younger relievers.
- Still possibilities available on the market for the starting rotation, being creative with the closer role if they don't get a closer.
- Kyle McClellan could be a candidate at a shot in the rotation during spring training, but it will be a last minute move.
- Losing Aaron Miles was a big loss, great teammate (comparing him to Mike Matheny).
- Talks about ARF, lists the guests (Vince Gill, REO Speedwagon, Huey Lewis, etc...)
- Seems to be excited about trading for Khalil Greene, but will be watched closely(defensively & offensively)
- Optimistic about Chris Carpenter, still too early to be sure. Would be more than happy to use him as the closer, ala John Smoltz.
- Talks a little about final contract year.
- Enjoys the young players & talks about the #8 rating in Baseball America.
- How to handle the outfield depth, is excited about Colby Rasmus. Rasmus is at the top of the list, if sent to Triple-A, for a call-up.
- Who's hitting behind Albert Pujols? He likes Troy Glaus.
