Cardinals Prospect Discussion With BA Editor Jim Callis On 1380 AM

  • Depth of the system is a lot better than past years.
  • Would have to include a Colby Rasmus or Brett Wallace in a deal for a C.C. Sabathia/Jake Peavy/Matt Holliday type player.
  • Not a Bryan Anderson fan.
  • Cardinals turned out real well in terms of overall prospect rankings in the NL Central, Chris Perez #1 ranked reliever.
  • Daryl Jones is questionable considering his track record. Can he do again in 2009 what he did in 2008?
  • So many more sources to run with to put together the top lists.
  • Maybe eight players of the 30 get a sniff of the majors on average.
  • Tommy Hanson (Braves) and Logan Morrison (Marlins) most talked about in AFL.
  • Much rather have an organization that produces a star every couple years, cause you can fill in the blanks around them.
  • Brett Wallace has to play third (most likely Troy Glaus replacement), thinks he could win a batting championship.
  • Pete Kozma pretty solid all-around player, David Freese the same.
  • Jess Todd as a reliever.
  • Most the Cardinals pitchers will end up as relievers.
STL Sports Insider Part 1

  • Can the Cardinals develop starting pitching, offense and infielders are solid.
  • Jess Todd and Clayton Mortensen are keys to the starting rotation in the future behind Adam Wainwright.
  • Very high on Jaime Garcia, doesn't see his Tommy John surgery as a problem.
  • High School players seem to sneak through the College players in the rankings.
  • Talks about Moneyball, going College heavy in the draft.
