In the summer of '69, Bob Gibson won 20 games for the St. Louis Cardinals, notching a miniscule 2.18 ERA over the course of 314(!) innings--a feat that, even with Lefty Carlton also in the rotation (17 wins, 2.13 ERA), could not save the Cards from a 4th-place finish in the National League East.
