The Pirates will also listen to offers for left-hander reliever John Grabow and first baseman Adam LaRoche, who can become free agents at the end of next season. The asking price is reportedly high for LaRoche. The Pirates want two top prospects in return.

The Pirates have been experiencing sticker shock on the free-agent market in their attempt to add a veteran starting pitcher to a young rotation. That has led them to talk to right-hander Matt Clement, the Butler High School graduate who has not pitched in the major leagues since 2006 after undergoing major shoulder surgery.
