AS A BASEBALL FAN, I know Tony La Russa as the former Oakland A's manager, current St. Louis Cardinals manager and one of the first in sports to realize the discipline and physical stamina necessary for dance. I credit his then-young daughters, who were involved with ballet, with La Russa's revelation. He not only added some ballet stretches and strength moves to the A's warmup routine, he also had players "dance" in the annual "Nutcracker."
