Cardinals Winter League Notebook 12-31-08

*Mexican Pacific League*

Fernando Salas (Springfield): Was placed on the Mazatlan disabled list.
Former Memphis Redbird Edgar Gonzalez went 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBIs for Mazatlan in game two.

Hugo Castellanos (Memphis-free agent): Did not pitch for Obregon.
Former Memphis Redbird Dan Serafini struck out four of seven batters faced as he pitched in relief for Obregon.

Former Memphis Redbird Nerio Rodriguez joined Hermosillo after his team, Escogido was eliminated from any chance of getting into the Dominican Republic League Playoffs. He made his first appearance Tuesday.

D'Angelo Jimenez (Memphis-free agent): Did not play for Licey.
Ex-Cardinal Timo Perez went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored for Licey.

Playing for Barranquilla:

Playing for Sincelejo:

Yadier Molina (St. Louis): Started as designated hitter and batted 7th. 2-for-4 with one run scored.
Luis Mateo (Johnson City): Did not play for Carolina.
Ex-Cardinal Kiko Calero inherited a bases loaded situation and kept them all on for Carolina. He picked up his third hold of the winter league season striking out three of six batters faced and allowing one run.

Joe Thurston (Memphis?): Did not play for Ponce.
Ponce outfielder and Former Memphis Redbird Raul Gonzalez was tossed in the ninth inning.
Carolina slipped by Ponce 5-4: Boxscore
