Cardinals Winter League Notebook 12-16-08

*Mexican Pacific League*

Fernando Salas (Springfield) has made three relief apperances posting a 1-0 record and 15.43 ERA. He's allowed three hits, four earned runs, one home run, three walks, and struck out two over 2.1 innings.

Hugo Castellanos (Memphis-free agent) has made 27 appearances (one start) posting a 1-3 record, 5.60 ERA, and eight holds. He's allowed 29 hits, 18 runs (17 earned), one home run, hit five batters, walked 14 and struck out 19 over 27.1 innings.

Obregon (22-33) visits Mazatlan (34-22) Tuesday @ 8:00pm MST.

*Veracruz Instructional League (Mexico)*

Joe Rogers (Memphis) has made four starts posting a 1-0 record and 2.87 ERA. He's allowed 15 hits, five earned runs, four home runs, three walks, and struck out eight over 15.2 innings.
Minatitlan (14-6-1) host former Cardinals' 2008 minor league spring training invite Ivan Bellazetin and Xalapa (13-8-1). Rogers is scheduled to start the second game of the series.

Francisco Rivera (Quad Cities) is batting .295 with two doubles, three home runs, 17 RBIs, 18 runs, 16 walks, 11 strikeouts, .393 SLG, and .388 OBA in 33 games for Acayucan (8-13-2).

*Venezuelan League*

Jose Martinez (Springfield) is batting .118 with two doubles, four total bases, two runs, three strikeouts, .118 OBP, .235 SLG, and .353 OPS in six games.

Jose Rada (GCL) has made 13 relief appearances posting a 2-0 record, 2.01 ERA, and three holds. He's allowed 17 hits, five earned runs, two home runs, hit two batters, walked seven and struck out 13 over 22.1 innings.

Jesus Montero (GCL): Started at catcher and batted 8th. 0-for-3 with one strikeout.
Jose Calero (GCL): Started and pitched 5.1 innings. Allowed seven hits, five earned runs, one home run, hit two batters, threw two wild pitches, and struck out four en route to his second loss in league play. (ground out-fly out:7-4)
Omar Diaz (GCL): Followed Calero and pitched 2.2 innings. Allowed three hits, three earned runs, one home run, one walk, threw one wild pitch, and struck out two. (ground out-fly out:2-4)(inherited runners-scored:1-1)
Aragua lost 8-1 to NY Mets: Boxscore

Kevin Moscatel (GCL): Started as designated hitter and batted 8th. 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
Caribes scored a run in the bottom of the tenth to beat Caracas 2-1: Boxscore

Osmir Medina (VSL): Started at third base and batted 2nd. 2-for-2 with one caught stealing.
Yorbel Alcala (VSL): Started at catcher and batted 3rd. 1-for-3 with one walk, one strikeout, one error, one passed ball, and watched a stolen base.
Roberto Perez (VSL): Started at first base and batter 4th. 1-for-3 with one double and one strikeout.
Cesar Valera (July 2nd Signing): Started at shortstop and moved to third base, batting 5th. 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two strikeouts, and two errors.
Sergio Nieves (July 2nd Signing): Started and pitched five innings. Allowed four hits, three unearned runs, one walk, and struck out three en route to his fourth loss. (ground out-fly out:6-6)
Carlos Oraa (VSL): Followed Nieves and pitched three innings. Allowed four hits, three earned runs, one walk, threw two wild pitches, and struck out four. (ground out-fly out:3-2)

Zulia beat Cardenales 9-6 in game one of a doubleheader.
Zulia lost 5-4 to Cardenales in game two.
Marineros-Lara beat Cleveland 6-1.

Yadier Molina (St. Louis) is batting .143 with one double, two RBIs, four total bases, two walks, four strikeouts .217 OBP, .190 SLG, and .408 OPS in six games.

P.J. Walters (Memphis) has made seven starts posting a 2-3 record and 5.06 ERA. He's allowed 37 hits, 21 runs (18 earned), three home runs, hit three batters, walked nine and struck out 37 over 32 innings. I'm pretty sure Walters is done in Puerto Rico, but don't take my word on it.
