Brian Fuentes Still Out There

Given the run on closers — Francisco Rodriguez signed by the Mets, J.J. Putz acquired by the Mets, Kerry Wood inked by the Indians — it's a bit surprising that Fuentes is still on the market. He's been an elite reliever over the last four seasons and he figures to remain as much for at least the next couple of years. Yes, he's left-handed, but there's nothing particularly troubling about his platoon splits. And guys like Billy Wagner, John Franco, Randy Myers, Dave Righetti, and Sparky Lyle, among others, long ago proved that there's nothing to fear from a southpaw closer. Fuentes, like all closers, will be overpaid, but he'd still be a great help to the Tigers, Cardinals, Angels, or Diamondbacks.
