Somewhere, and for the life of me I can’t find where, I read a few days ago that the Cards’ likelihood of trading Ankiel this offseason was tied to their likelihood of resigning him prior to him becoming a free agent. For a moment let’s set aside the fact that Scott Boras is his agent and that Boras does all he can to see his clients (like Matt Holliday, for example) hit the market. I know that the very mention of Ankiel’s agent’s name conjures up ill feelings and makes many people’s blood boil – so let’s forget about him for now. Happy thoughts, everyone.
