In addition to their interest in their own free agents, the Astros have made contact with several players from outside of the organization. Keep an eye on Russ Springer, who has drawn interest from the Astros, and depending on what the Cardinals decide to do on Monday, could be a target for Houston.
Springer qualifies as a Type A free agent, so if the Cardinals offer him arbitration and he rejects, the Astros, seemingly unwilling to give up Draft picks, will probably not pursue him.
Springer, 40, appeared in 70 games for the Cardinals in '08 and posted a 2.32 ERA. He pitched for the Astros in 1997 and again from 2004-06.
