Albert Pujols Has Surgery On Right Elbow

Albert Pujols underwent surgery on his troublesome right elbow on Monday, but it was not the long-feared "Tommy John" reconstructive surgery on the joint. Instead, Pujols had an operation to move the ulnar nerve in that elbow, a procedure that should ease the discomfort Pujols was feeling at the end of the 2008 season.

Cardinals first baseman and MVP candidate Albert Pujols had surgery on his troublesome right elbow Monday, the team announced late this afternoon. Pujols had surgery to decompress and relocate the ulnar nerve in his right elbow, a joint that has given him problems since he strained a ligament there early in 2003.
