City officials in Troy named a baseball diamond and street for the late Owen Brendel the past weekend. Brendel, who died in 2007, started the community's Khoury League program in 1958. He played in the St. Louis Cardinals' farm system during the late 1940s.
"He was involved with baseball his whole life," said son Bob Brendel, an area basketball referee. Another son, Jerry, previously served as comptroller for the Edwardsville School District.
