Ex-Cardinals Watch 7-9-08: Suppan & Wells Returns, Edmonds Feels Healthy, Drew Hurting Again, Polanco A U.S. Citizen

Jeff Suppan(Brewers):
Right-hander Jeff Suppan, who is on the disabled list with irritation in his elbow, is scheduled to be activated to start the fifth game after the break. That leaves Yost to fill the fourth spot with either Dave Bush or Seth McClung.

J.D. Drew(RedSox):
Lost in the shuffle of Tuesday night's riveting comeback victory was the fact that right fielder J.D. Drew quietly came out of the game before the top of the ninth inning with back stiffness.

Kip Wells(Rockies):
Any doubt that Kip Wells will likely join the Rockies' rotation after the all- star break was eliminated by O'Dowd. He and pitching coach Bob Apodaca praised Wells for agreeing to make two more rehab starts.
"It was very refreshing," Apodaca said. Added O'Dowd: "We need him. He's as good as anything out there on the market that we could get."

Placido Polanco(Tigers):
Placido Polanco's prolonged wait has ended. The Tigers' second baseman officially became a United States citizen Wednesday night during a pregame ceremony at Comerica Park.
