Ex-Cardinals Watch 7-28-08: Barton's Return Delayed, Haren Extension, Ginter Another Start, Tatis Starting LF, Wells Back To Pen, Renteria Hitting

Josh Pressley(Somerset/Atlantic League):
Bangor native Josh Pressley is still in the swing of things as a first baseman for the Somerset (Mass.) Patriots.

Daric Barton(Athletics):
Rookie first baseman Daric Barton is 5-for-20 at Sacramento and continues to have some neck stiffness, according to A's manager Bob Geren.

Barton is eligible to come off the DL today but he is likely to remain with the River Cats for several more days and rejoin the A's at some point on their trip. Barton went 1-for-3 with a walk in the River Cats' 9-3 loss at Round Rock (Texas) on Monday.

Dan Haren(Diamondbacks):
Indications are that the D-backs are close to agreeing to a contract extension with starter Dan Haren.

Matt Ginter(Indians):
Matt Ginter wasn't necessarily shocked when he was called into manager Eric Wedge's office shortly after Friday night's game.

Fernando Tatis(Mets):
Jerry Manuel has anointed Fernando Tatis his full-time left fielder, barring the acquisition of a corner outfielder before Thursday's 4 p.m. trading deadline. That means Endy Chavez goes to fourth outfielder and late-game replacement when Ryan Church returns from the disabled list as soon as next Tuesday's home-stand opener against the Padres.

Kip Wells(Rockies):
Rockies right-hander Kip Wells is no longer hoping for a chance in the starting rotation. The bullpen is his best, and possibly last, chance.

Edgar Renteria(Tigers):
Edgar Renteria spent much of this season trying to find his stroke at the plate. In the end, his biggest help might well have been to get away from the plate.
