Minor League Report

Hot:

Jon Jay, OF, Cardinals - Jay went 4-for-6 with five RBI last Wednesday for Double-A Springfield, then followed that up with two hits in each of his next three games and is hitting .410 over his last 10. He has picked it up a little in June and has posted a line of .430/.500/.734 thus far with six home runs in 79 at-bats. He has cut back on his strikeouts and is more patient at the plate than he has been. He has also doubled his stolen base output for the year this month.

Fernando Salas, P, Cardinals - Salas has a 12:2 K:BB over his last 10 games (12 1/3 innings) through Sunday for Double-A Springfield. He has appeared in 33 games overall and has a 3-1 record, 12 saves and a 2.53 ERA. He's gone 42 2/3 innings, has a remarkable 58:8 K:BB and a .182 BAA. He's given up four home runs, but his 0.88 GO:AO indicates he could give up more as he moves up through the system unless he gets the ball down more. All in all, the numbers are decent enough to move him up to Triple-A at some point - and to get him on prospect lists for 2009 for sure. He's on a closer track at the moment.

Andrew Brown, 1B, Cardinals - Brown went 4-for-6 with two home runs and five RBI on Wednesday in his fourth game for Double-A Springfield since being promoted from High-A, then hit two home runs later in the week. He has jumped from Low-A to Double-A this year and has a composite line of .300/.386/.549 with a 60:32 K:BB over 237 at-bats with 13 home runs. He was an 18th-round pick in the 2007 draft and spent last year at Rookie-level Batavia, where he hit .238/.330/.444. He is a nice surprise for the Cardinals and bears watching.
