The Brewers granted right-hander Jeff Weaver his unconditional release from Triple-A Nashville on Thursday, a day after the veteran's latest disappointing start.

Kip Wells(Rockies):
Reliever Kip Wells, who had surgery to remove a blood clot in his right hand, will throw the first of two bullpen sessions Saturday. Live batting practice will follow next Friday. He plans to extend his pitch count on his rehab assignment to leave him in position to start. "I would like to have that option," Wells said. "Otherwise, I am the stretched-out guy who doesn't have much of a role."
