4 Oquendo Pummels Hammaker (1987). With a trip to the World Series on the line in Game 7, unlikely source Jose Oquendo hit a three-run homer - just his third long ball in 914 at-bats - to propel St. Louis to a 6-0 victory in Game 7. Giants players privately fumed because they wanted reliable Mike Krukow on the mound, not flaky Atlee Hammaker.
11 Candy Man Can't (1987). With Cardinals ace John Tudor on the mound, the Giants had to be perfect in Game 6 of the NLCS. Instead, right fielder Candy Maldonado made an awkward attempt at catching Tony Peña's second-inning drive, resulting in a triple and the only run of the Giants' 1-0 defeat.
12 Cepeda Traded (1966). Fearing that Cepeda's right knee was shot, and with McCovey entrenched at first base, the Giants shipped the slugger to St. Louis for Ray Sadecki. The pitcher went 32-39 in his San Francisco career; Cepeda won the '67 N.L. MVP en route to a World Series title.
25 Clark to Cards (1985). The Giants traded Jack Clark, whose postseason heroics would lead the Cardinals to the '85 World Series, for David Green, Gary Rajsich, Dave LaPoint and Jose Uribe, who would lead the '85 Giants to their only 100-loss season.
