Ex-Cardinals Watch 3-30-08: Falkenborg, Ardoin, Tatis, & Rincon Sent Down; Drew Still Injured; Lincoln & Mercker Make Reds Roster

Brian Falkenborg & Danny Ardoin(Dodgers):
Reassigned to Minor League camp were non-roster pitchers Chan Ho Park, Brian Falkenborg, Mike Koplove, Clayton Kershaw and Greg Jones; catchers Rene Rivera and Danny Ardoin and infielder Ramon Martinez.

Steve Kline(Free Agent):
Bochy was referring to the roster moves that have to be made in order to reach the final 25-man roster. On Sunday, Bochy was left with the burden of designating veteran left-handed pitcher Steve Kline for assignment.

Fernando Tatis, Ricardo Rincon, & Marlon Anderson(Mets):
And for Fernando Tatis, Ricardo Rincon, Nelson Figueroa, the messages weren't encouraging. Each had been assigned to Minor League camp.

Damon Easley and Marlon Anderson are likely to see mostly infield and pinch-hitting duty. Tatis has been told he will play everywhere, shortstop included, at Triple-A. So few of these assignments -- perhaps only Chavez, Easley and Anderson -- are even remotely permanent.

Ronnie Belliard & Ray King(Nationals):
Belliard: 0-for-3.
King: 0.2 Innings, 0 Hits Or Runs, & 1 BB(pitches-strikes:12-6)(ground out-fly out:0-2).

Jim Edmonds(Padres):
McAnulty will get the Opening Day start in left field as the Padres wait for the return of center fielder Jim Edmonds, who is on the disabled list but will be working out with the Padres before Monday's game.

Steve Kline & Woody Williams(Free Agents):
General manager Pat Gillick said the Phillies were talking to a few of the players who were cut from their respective teams, but didn't elaborate. Lefty relievers Mike Stanton and Steve Kline and starting pitcher Woody Williams were among the players cut.

Troy Percival & Al Reyes(Rays):
The Rays' bullpen had a very rough 2007 season, garnering a 6.16 ERA and expunging countless leads. Tampa Bay then wasted no time acquiring proven veterans such as Troy Percival and Trever Miller in the offseason.

J.D. Drew & Coco Crisp(RedSox):
In an ideal world, J.D. Drew would have taken some at-bats in Sunday's exhibition game so that Red Sox manager Terry Francona could make sure the right fielder's back was good to go for Tuesday's -- for lack of a better term, re-opener -- in Oakland.

Mike Lincoln & Kent Mercker(Reds):
Other lingering issues remained status quo on the eve of the Reds' opener. Officially, the roster remained at 28 players. Non-roster invites Patterson and pitchers Johnny Cueto, Kent Mercker and Mike Lincoln have made the club, but have not been added to the roster officially.

Kip Wells & MGR Clint Hurdle(Rockies):
Opening Day at Busch Stadium is special for a player, even if he's wearing purple pinstripes instead of the birds on the bat.

Mark Grudzielanek(Royals):
Mark Grudzielanek will be experiencing his 14th Opening Day and Matt Tupman his first. Old stuff or new, it's a time for a player to feel excited.
