Infielder Brendan Ryan of the St. Louis Cardinals appeared in his first major league game last June against the Houston Astros. He was a seventh round draft choice by St. Louis in 2003 after playing for Lewis-Clark College in Idaho. He can play all infield positions and is competing for the Cardinals’ starting shortstop position in spring training. Ryan hit his first major league home run against left-handed reliever Scott Schoenweis of the New York Mets shortly after being called up by the Cardinals to the majors. The blast won the game for St. Louis in the 11th inning.
