...Or, if the Cardinals lose Albert Pujols for an extended amount of time, he would make for a solid stop gap.

jrocke217 says: sounds like a good analysis, but i highly doubt the cardinals will be tossing a couple prospects the nationals way for dmitri young. IF albert pujols were to take the surgery option, then the cardinals already have signed josh phelps, along with scott speizio & possibly chris duncan to play 1B if needed. another option is joe mather, newly re-signed rico washington, & d'angelo jimenez also has experience at the right corner. there's still plenty of options for the cardinals at the 1B bag if need be, look at the past couple years the cardinals have used what has been available to them to fill the holes(starting rotation as an example). i would hope the cardinals keep chris duncan in LF, cause it has taken awhile for him to get used to the role in left to move him back to 1B then next year move him right back out to left. count on as long as tony larussa & dave duncan are in st. louis then chris duncan will also be there. no need to move chris duncan around and mess up his mechanics. why not put adam kennedy on first?
