A couple of months ago, we wrote about the need for better metrics in assessing catcher fielding. With the news today of the Cardinals and Yadier Molina reaching a four-year, $15.5 million contract (with club option for a fifth year), let’s revisit Molina’s defense, since his offense, while improving, still leaves something to be desired (though he reached a .340 OBP last year, he projects to regress to .307).
