For the first time in a long time the St. Louis Cardinals are not expected to contend for a playoff spot as they enter spring training. They spent the off-season saying goodbye to three members of their 2006 World Championship team: Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds and David Eckstein and remaking their front office. The stated goal of the new regime is to turn away from the Jocketty Era plan of stocking the team with players acquired through trades and free agency and to move toward players developed from within the system.
