Towers said the Padres remain interested in signing a second baseman to a one-year contract as a stop-gap solution until prospect Matt Antonelli is ready. He said the club spoke with the agent of David Eckstein today, but Eckstein is still seeking a multi-year deal. "I would say he's still a possibility," Towers said of Eckstein, who also would give the Padres an option for the leadoff spot.
