i have recently heard a rumor of the cardinals being close to signing matt clement. is there any truth to the rumor? also read that he would like to stay in the midwest are if he plays anywhere. also have the cardinals lost interest in kris benson?

Jeff Gordon: The Clement thing could happen. The Cards haven't been as prominent in the Benson chase, which is too bad. If he is still married to Anna, Tipsheet would have enjoyed her quite a bit.

jrocke217: with the whole open hole in center field. i know we have colby rasmus & rick ankiel scheduled to fight for the position, but i don't think rasmus is quite ready yet & ankiel is still shaky. how bout a run at kenny lofton for a 1 year deal to give rasmus a year at memphis?
Jeff Gordon: Skip Schumaker provides ample defensive insurance. Lofton could help the offensive equation a bit, but I don't know if he can do much at the top of the batting order at his age.

Jeff Gordon: I don't have a vote. As for Bernie, this dilemma is great column fodder. Personally, I don't think you can write off Big Mac just for the 'roids suspicion. How do you sort the cheaters from the clean players? Beyond that, though, is the question of Marks' credentials. Homers aside, is not a Hall of Famer. And at the very least, you discount the homer total as a product of a homer-happy era.
I don't see Big Mac as a Hall of Famer because of that.
